In 2025, Berlin's Museum Island will celebrate its 200th anniversary with special events. Since its foundation in 1825, the island in the heart of Berlin has developed into a unique ensemble of architecture, history and art, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Today, the Museum Island is one of Germany's biggest crowd-pullers, attracting around 2.5 million visitors every year.
To celebrate its 200th anniversary, the Museum Island is organising a three-day island festival. Visitors can expect a varied programme with special guided tours, workshops and hands-on activities until late into the evening. There will also be a stage programme in the Kolonnadenhof, put on by renowned Berlin cultural institutions such as the Deutsches Theater, the Volksbühne, the Berliner Ensemble, the Staatsoper and the Komische Oper.
For the anniversary, the regular day ticket gives you access to all six museums on the island. Holders of an annual pass may take one additional person with them free of charge on the anniversary weekend. Children and young people under the age of 18 are admitted free of charge. The outdoor area is freely accessible to all.
Various events will take place on the Museum Island to mark the anniversary, including special exhibitions, open-air exhibitions, concerts, film nights in the open-air cinema and much more. The Kolonnaden Bar will also reopen in summer 2025.
